GSLEN, the Gay, Lesbian, & Straight Education Network is the leading national education organization working toward safe schools for all students. GSLEN envisions a world and school community where every child learns to accept and respect all people regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

GSLEN's goal is to create a safe and healthy environment for all students. They seek to develop school climates where difference is valued and respected for the positive contribution it makes in creating a more vibrant and diverse community.

The GSLEN website is a rich resource for students and educators alike. It supplies resources for teachers on how to implement inclusive curriculum, create an inclusive classroom and school environment, and lead healthy and open discussions. In addition to news articles about current events in the LGBT world, GSLEN provides free posters, and links to videos and books related to LGBT issues. There are free webinars as well. I plan to use their evidence-based program called Ready, Set, Respect, which is a curriculum that builds awareness and understanding of bullying, gender non-conformity and LGBT-inclusive family diversity. If my school does not already have a GSA, I will use the resource from GSLEN's site Jump-Start Guide for GSAs to form a new GSA club. In addition, I will acquire a Safe Space Kit which will guide me in creating a safe school environment for LGBT youth.

This tool is extremely useful and I will continue to use it as a resource to educate myself as I prepare for my career in education.
